So you see…
When it comes to gigs, "Dollar" Bill and The Earthshaker are always on time. Infact, someone might say they arrive a little early. But then again, how can a musician be too early for an event like the Erie Art Museum's Blues and Jazz Festival? Well, maybe a week and a half is just a tiny bit early after all.
However, they were just in time to hear a group of poets reading their prose.
Poet after Poet read their verse, Inspiring, Daring, Thought provoking, and Interesting all. One though really stood out from the rest. Not only a poet of mention, but reading her words to the beat of a drum. This person obviously understood the connection between words and music, just as blues players have known from the beginning of time.
You Know, the band just couldn't resist. Their very own Poet Laureate!
So meet Thasia Anne, she comes often to gigs, and usually calls The Earthshaker, Bro.
The sun beat down
with the weight of the heat
waves
the scent of hot sausage
wafts
in the air
but all I care about is being blue
My heart shakes and quakes under
that bass line
A Hammond B3 rift just ran up my spine
so divine
along with the ting, ting
of a high hat
that takes me to
that
Bill for all this fanatical fun
What is the sum total?
A Dollar Bill
Will you say that again?
"Dollar" Bill and The Spare Change
can arrange covers clever
and originals ring
with the professionalism of the big time
What a time to be had for free
You could see the future
of this band
that could easily land
them in the big time
Thasia Anne
I see
a sea of colors
People, tents, and umbrella's
Girls on the arm of their handsome fellas'
Kids prancing barefoot
and free
dancing with their cheeks painted
with happiness and glee
Notes afloat and hang in the air
"Dollar" Bill and The Spare Change
can rearrange
and change up the old
making it fresh and new
You too
can move and groove
to the sublime lines and rifts
that put you on the cliff edge
of your seat
Even that heat could not keep people
from grooving and moving
their feet
Blues and Jazz fest 2009
Sublime...
